OIC

The Office of Innovation Commercialization (OIC) is the commercialization arm of the research enterprise at Iowa State University and the Ames National Laboratory and comprised of the Iowa State University Research Foundation (ISURF) and the Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer (OIPTT).

The OIC evaluates and develops intellectual property strategies for technology emerging from research and manages industry relations for sponsored research. OIC strives to find those industry partners and works to meet the needs of both parties to provide the rights through licensing to carry out that process. The goal is to benefit society through the commercialization of technologies for the public good.

ISURF partners with OIPTT to protect research innovations and work with companies to advance these innovations to make them ready for commercial use. The transfer of technology from the lab to the marketplace lies at the core of Iowa State University’s land-grant mission.
